From Land to Vision: Building Affordable Housing in St. Pete

Great projects don’t start with construction they start with vision and strategy. In this video, HB Design and Engineering shares a behind-the-scenes look at a new multifamily development project in St. Petersburg, Florida, built on the idea of being investors first.

By identifying underutilized land ahead of major nearby developments like the transformation of the YMCA into Whitney Village, the team positioned this project to be part of a rapidly evolving corridor along Central Avenue. The result: a thoughtfully designed community featuring 72 affordable apartment units tailored to meet the needs of the area.

This development is focused on 80% AMI (Area Median Income) housing, offering rare access to new construction at accessible price points in one of the most desirable and walkable areas of Tampa Bay. With proximity to transit, restaurants, entertainment, and the waterfront, the project supports a car-free, efficient lifestyle while contributing to the city’s growth.

At HB Design and Engineering, development isn’t just about building structures it’s about creating opportunities, supporting communities, and delivering projects that make sense both financially and socially.
